Microsoft discontinues support for Android apps on Windows 11

In our daily lives, we interact with different kinds of operating systems be it our mobile phones or PCs. We have several examples where different operating systems are integrated in order to offer more options to users. One such example is the integration of Windows 11 with Android apps. Microsoft allowed users to run Android apps on Windows 11 due to its addition of the Windows Subsystem for Android (WSA). In simple words, it was possible for users to run the apps used on an Android device on the Windows 11 and vice versa. In the same way, the company partnered with Amazon to offer the Amazon Appstore on Windows 11.

According to some recent pieces of information, this is about to change. Recently, the company announced that the support for Windows Subsystem for Android (WSA) is ending from March 5, 2025. To put simply, users won’t be able to run Android apps on Windows 11. Notably, the same policy is applicable to the Amazon Appstore. Users will no longer be able to download Amazon Appstore and Android apps from Amazon’s marketplace from the Microsoft Store on Windows 11. Those users who are already using Amazon Appstore and other Android apps can use them until 5 March 2025.

There are no details regarding this decision. Perhaps the company is considering the fact that most of the users are not interested in using Android apps on Windows 11. Despite this news, there are still alternative methods available, such as Microsoft Your Phone and Samsung DeX, that can be used for accessing Android apps on your Galaxy Book.
