Microsoft Edge Now Supports Custom Themes For New Tabs

Microsoft has released another update for the Chromium-based Edge browser. With the current version, users can set their own theme, which is displayed when a new tab is opened. The page can be preloaded to save time.

Earlier, Microsoft provided the Edge browser with support for designs from the Chrome Web Store. The themes have not yet been displayed on the “New Tab” page. As Techdows and Neowin reports, that has now changed. In order for your own designs to appear, you have to click the settings symbol in the top right corner after opening a new tab.

The “Custom theme” option is now displayed under the “Background” section. Now the previously downloaded and selected design should also be used on the “New Tab” page.

The preload feature is intended to reduce loading time

In addition, the Redmond-based company has built a new function into the Edge browser to reduce loading times. The feature preloads the “New Tab” page in the background so that the page no longer has to be fully calculated when opening a new tab. This is to improve the user experience.

While the individual themes can now be used by users of the beta version and the final build, the preloading feature is currently only available to insiders who have installed the current dev or canary version of the browser. The experimental builds can be as usual on this Microsoft page to download. The function should also be integrated into a final version later.
