Microsoft Expands Xbox App into a Central Hub for All PC Games

Microsoft has now provided several functions to all users of the Xbox app for Windows in the insider program. With the update, the company wants to make the app a central switching point for PC gaming.

Not just games

This applies regardless of where the games were originally bought or installed. The most important new element is therefore the so -called “aggregated game library”. It bundles all titles installed on the respective device in a joint overview within the Xbox app. This allows games from different sources – including Xbox Game Pass, Steam, Epic Games Store, Battle.net or GOG – to start directly without having to switch between different launchers.

If you don’t want to use the function, you can deactivate it in the settings. “If you install a game in a supported store, it automatically appears in the personal library of the Xbox app and also in the list of the last played titles,” explains Microsoft. “So you can just continue playing with one click.”

In addition, the company introduces the feature “My Apps” in the final version. This makes important Windows applications accessible quickly – including launcher competing providers or web browsers. Microsoft decides which applications are supported, but announced that the offer in future updates is steadily expanding. The aim is to make the Xbox app a universal entry point for games and tools that have something to do with the game experience in a broader sense.

Preparation for Xbox Ally

Another update has already been promised: The app is to receive an improved game course display during this month. This then also shows cloud-compatible games and allows you to get into a session directly from the list of the last played titles.

With this innovation, Microsoft focuses particularly on mobile games. The company is currently preparing the market launch of its new Xbox Ally handhelds, which should appear on time for the coming Christmas season. The optimized app is intended to ensure that users can access their game collection seamlessly on the go.
