Microsoft offering Free Digital Skills Training for 25m People

An initiative has been taken by Microsoft to teach digital-age work skills to 25 million people across the world. They will be taught completely free of charge.

As per the US technology giant, it will support this effort with $20 million in cash grants to nonprofit organisations. Also, Microsoft will explore the resources at developer-focused platform GitHub and career-oriented social network LinkedIn.

Microsoft president Brad Smith in a blog post said, “One of the key steps needed to foster a safe and successful economic recovery is expanded access to the digital skills needed to fill new jobs.”

Adding,” And one of the keys to a genuinely inclusive recovery are programmes to provide easier access to digital skills for people hardest hit by job losses, including those with lower incomes, women, and underrepresented minorities.”

According to Smith, a quarter of the grant money will be for the community-based nonprofit organisations that are driven by and serve US communities of colour.

Smith stated, This initiative will bring together every part of our company.”

Further adding, “At its heart, this is a comprehensive technology initiative that will build on data and digital technology.”

The UN said that the COVID-19 pandemic has led to higher rate of layoffs and unemployment than what was previously expected.
