Samsung Launches 870 QVO 8TB SSD

After the Samsung 870 QVO appeared in stores at the beginning of the month, the South Korean electronics manufacturer Samsung has now officially announced the SSD. The SSD offers up to twice the capacity of its predecessor. A model is available now.

Samsung announced this in the official newsroom. The South Koreans use second-generation QLC flash memory for the SSD. A big advantage over the predecessor, the 860 QVO, is the top model, which has a storage capacity of eight terabytes. In addition, the read and write speeds are said to have been increased and the reliability improved. Optimally, the Samsung 870 QVO SSD can achieve a reading speed of 560 MB/s and a writing speed of 530 MB/s.

The Samsung 870 QVO SSD appears in four versions with capacities of one, two, four, and eight terabytes. All models are 2.5-inch SATA III SSDs. While the SLC cache is 42 gigabytes in size in the smallest version, buyers receive a 78-gigabyte SLC cache from the two-terabyte version. Samsung promises that a total of at least 2880 terabytes of data can be written on the eight-terabyte model before the device gives up. All four SSDs come with a three-year limited warranty.

Largest model only available from August

While the small model with a storage capacity of one terabyte is already available today, the two versions with two and eight terabytes will not appear until the end of July 2020. The eight-terabyte variant will only see the light of day in August 2020. An exact release date has not yet been set. The recommended retail price is just under 117 euros for the smallest model, almost 234 euros for the two-terabyte version, 468 euros for the four-terabyte version, and a good 848 euros for the large eight-terabyte version.
