Microsoft plans to blur the line between PC and phone

Microsoft Build Developer Conference saw the unveiling of some new tools that make it easier for mobile users to access the Windows Experience. The company had halted Windows 10 Mobile development, but aims to expand support for smartphone users on Apple and Google’s Android operating systems. The Microsoft 365 strategy allows users to view contents of their phone on their PC and brings desktop feature to their mobile phones. The Microsoft new Your Phone app, plans to blur the line between phone and desktop. The Windows Insiders will be the first to have it available initially to test. The app allows PC users to access their mobile phone contents on their Windows 10 desktop-this includes messages, photos and other notifications. The drag and drop interface aims to make it easier for users to move files.

Dell, HP and Samsung have developed tools to enable users to view and transfer content between mobile and PC so the idea is not novel at all.

Timeline experience on Windows 10 will support Microsoft Edge browser users on Apple, this has been recently launched and is a competition to Apple’s MacOS Handoff, which offers users easy experience of transitioning between Safari on MacOS to iOS, or vice-versa. On Android, this feature will be integrated within the Microsoft Launcher app to support cross-device app launch. The company is also in move of expanding its Sets Experience to third part apps and allows users to bunch apps together in a tabbed interface. Adaptive cards will also be supported within Microsoft 365 strategy.

Microsoft is also in the lane to give developers access to new tools and APIs to make enterprise apps. It has also announced the .NET 3.0 Framework updates to the Fluent Design System, the MSIX containerization solution to help enterprise convert large catalogue of apps and new machine learning initiatives.
