Microsoft Releases A Teaser For New Paint App

Microsoft Paint will get a makeover with the introduction of Windows 11. Windows boss Panos Panay now shows in a short teaser video what can be expected from the redesign in autumn. The focus will continue to be on simple image processing.

After various leaks and the first stock photos, it was already clear that Microsoft would not transform Paint into the next Adobe Photoshop or Affinity Photo, but instead concentrate on the basic idea behind the program, which is also essential for Windows 11 – simple image editing software for everyone. In his “What’s new in Windows” series, Panos Panay shares another video that briefly describes the new features with regard to the functions and design of Paint under Windows 11.

Modern user interface (UI)

If you compare the “new” Paint with the current Windows 10 version, comparatively few changes can be seen. The navigation, including shapes, colors, and types of characters, appears in a tidy and modern WinUI 3 look, but almost all functions are already available. The advantages of the updated Microsoft Paint only become visible in the detailed view. The selection of brushes has been improved, and the creation and editing of added texts should be faster with the new view for fonts and sizes.

Last but not least, Microsoft Paint will benefit from the operating system’s dark mode under Windows 11. So far, the image processing tool cannot adapt to the color scheme as soon as the standard app mode under Windows 10 is changed from the classic “light” to “dark”. It remains unclear whether Paint will feel any further changes before a possible release in autumn 2021. Likewise, the future of the more modern Paint 3D seems questionable after the classic has been updated.
