Microsoft Releases Revised Compatibility For Windows 10 Update

Microsoft has updated the so-called reliability update for all Windows 10 versions and thus also included the new version 21H1. So far there are few details about changes because the group has not provided any new information.

The update is now also available via the Microsoft Update Catalog. The reliability update is regularly improved by Microsoft in an updated form and re-released accordingly. Information on this is available in the Knowledge Base under KB entry 4023057. The update now addresses all Windows 10 versions from version 1507 to 21H1.

Only a few details about the new update can be found in the Knowledge Base under KB4023057. The information still seems to be identical to the notes from the previous updates. After some time, the group releases the update again and again in order to address further Windows versions.

Criticism

In the past, however, there has been a lot of criticism from Microsoft for these updates – and not entirely without good reason. Because these “reliability updates” (often) cut the update blocks previously set by the user. However, since Microsoft is silent about the content of the updates, you never know 100 percent which changes the new updates will bring with them and whether user settings will be overwritten or not.

Microsoft itself warns in the support article that the Windows update may overwrite user settings. Anyone who has so far decided against the version jump to a newer Windows 10 version for a specific reason runs the risk that their lock will be deactivated and the company will deliver and install an automatic update after the reliability updates by Microsoft. The update is also only available for previous versions to improve and update to newer versions.
