Since the release of Windows 11 24H2, users have faced multiple update barriers, known as Safeguard Holds, due to severe compatibility issues. Since October 2024, Microsoft has encountered 13 such cases, halting installations to avoid system conflicts.
While seven issues remain, one is now “mitigated,” and five have been “resolved.” The latest resolution addresses a significant problem faced by AutoCAD 2022 users, who previously couldn’t launch the application after updating to Windows 11 24H2. This issue has now been fixed, providing relief to professionals in architecture, engineering, and project management.
Microsoft has officially lifted the update block related to AutoCAD 2022. According to their Learn website, the issue was resolved in collaboration with Autodesk, the software’s creator. Users simply need to install the AutoCAD update S182.0.0 (version 2022.1.4) or later. Once updated, they can proceed to install Windows 11 24H2 without any issues.
However, Microsoft recommends against manually forcing the installation using tools like the Windows 11 Installation Assistant or the Media Creation Tool. Users should ensure their AutoCAD version is updated and compatible before proceeding. Additionally, even after installing the AutoCAD update, it may take up to 48 hours for the Windows 11 24H2 update to appear via the standard update channels.
While the AutoCAD issue has been resolved, several other update blocks for Windows 11 24H2 are still active. These ongoing issues continue to affect various users and devices.
For those impacted, patience remains essential. Microsoft advises users to regularly check for updates and troubleshoot known errors. Unfortunately, the longer these issues persist, the less likely it is that some of the more niche problems will be resolved, especially for cases affecting smaller groups of users.
