Microsoft reportedly plans to release Windows 11 22H2 on September 20

Microsoft is set to schedule the general availability of the first major Windows 11 feature update for September 20, 2022. The group itself hasn’t commented on this yet and probably won’t until shortly before release.

At least that’s how it was in the past – Microsoft rarely announced a version jump like the upcoming Windows 11 22H2 update with a launch date. Still, there are always rumors about the possible dates – this time they come from the online magazine Windows Central. Author Zac Bowden writes that he has received new information from his contacts about the general availability of Windows 11 22H2. This information is actually quite concrete and coincides with other hints that have been leaked in recent days. In addition, Zac Bowden is considered a reliable tipster.

Bowden writes: “Microsoft has not yet announced an official release date for Windows 11 version 22H2, but I have heard through my own contacts that the current expected general availability date is September 20. That date is subject to change, but I have heard that Microsoft is targeting that date as of this writing. Version 22H2 launch will ship as build 22621.”

Microsoft confirmed RTM candidate

In early May this year, Microsoft confirmed in a blog post for the Insider Program that the then-published build number 22621 was the first RTM candidate for Windows 11 22H2 (Sun Valley 2). So that’s for sure. There were already indications of a September start date in July. So far, however, other experts are not assuming the end of September, but rather an early start in September. September 5 was often mentioned as a release date, and September 13 patch day was also mentioned as a possible “candidate”. It won’t be long, so we’ll know soon.
