Microsoft Rolls Out Windows 10 20H2 update DNS via HTTPS support

Microsoft has released a new insider build for the Windows 10 feature update planned for the autumn. The new version mainly brings improvements and fixes the problem that some users were previously unable to update to new builds.

The Windows team wrote this in a short blog post on the new preview build. The new preview, which can now be tested by users in the Fast Ring, has the build number 19628. There is still a problem in this version when navigating for Narrator and NVDA users in the latest version of Microsoft Edge based on chrome. Other problems from the previous versions have now been fixed.

In addition, the Windows team now informs that this is the first version that was published with the addition MN_RELEASE instead of RS_PRERELEASE. According to Microsoft, however, this has only a practical reason, because of one “practices” the ability to change the development branch only once, according to the release notes. The builds from the MN_RELEASE branch should also not be tailored to a specific Windows 10 version, although the MN previously stood for “manganese”, and this is the code name for the version expected in autumn. Otherwise, this update has two important changes. It fixes an update bug and adds support for DNS over HTTPS. This ensures privacy as early as the DNS query.

Changes & improvements

  • We add initial support for DNS over HTTPS so that you can choose to use encryption when Windows performs DNS queries. There is more information in a blog entry.
  • Thank you to everyone who provided feedback on the updated version of Korean Microsoft IME that was introduced with build 18941. At the moment, the IME version will revert to the previous version, and we will take your feedback into account.

Bug fixes

We fixed an issue where some devices could not be updated with error code 0xc000000409. If this error persists, please let us know by submitting new feedback in the Feedback Hub.
