Microsoft has released a major update for the Windows Subsystem for Android in Windows 11 as part of the Insider testing program. The new version now launches a picture-in-picture mode as well as Android 13 security updates.
This is reported by the online magazine Neowin. In addition to various Windows updates, Microsoft has now also released an update for Windows Subsystem for Android (WSA) for Windows 11 with the new version 2303.40000.3.0.
The changes are limited this month. Microsoft is currently primarily optimizing the performance of the system. A new blog post accompanying the release of the latest WSA update states that the Linux kernel has been updated to version 5.15.78.
According to the Windows team, there’s another interesting change in preferences: a new “Partially Running” system preference in the WSA Settings app lets you choose to run the subsystem with minimal resources. However, apps will still start faster than in “On Demand” mode. Platform reliability improvements and the April Android 13 security update are also starting. Microsoft writes about the changes in the Windows blog:
“Today we are sending out an update (2303.40000.3.0) for the Windows Subsystem for Android on Windows 11 to all Windows Insider channels. This update improves reliability and security and enables picture-in-picture (PIP).
For applications using the Android PIP feature, the subsystem now supports this behavior. With the flexibility of windowed apps and all the great Windows resizing and snapping features, this makes multitasking within Android apps even easier.”
