Microsoft recently expanded support for the Android subsystem for Windows 11 so that it can now also be used in European countries. In the meantime, the team is working to add support for Android 13.
This is reported by the XDA Developers. One of the most interesting new features in Windows 11 is the ability to run Android apps on the desktop. Users can download apps from Amazon AppStore or use APK files using third-party tools and use the Android apps in windows on PC.
The apps support push notifications, access to cameras, printing and other functions, so that they offer a real additional benefit for many users on the desktop, which they would sometimes not use on their smartphones.
In recent months, Microsoft has already greatly improved the subsystem for Android (WSA) and added new functions. The development roadmap now shows what else is planned – at the top of the list is support for the new Android 13 .
WSA ‘s GitHub repository hosts the roadmap, which describes existing features, unavailable capabilities, and new things Microsoft has “on the radar” for future releases.
According to the documentation, Microsoft plans to update WSA to Android 13 and add file transfer, shortcuts, picture-in-picture, and support for local network access. So far, however, there is no information about when Microsoft will provide these functions and how the distribution is planned. The only thing that is certain is that, as always, Windows 11 Insiders will be the first to try out the changes for WSA.
The Insider team regularly releases WSA updates with new features, often initially only for US users. However, with the official start in Germany, this is probably now obsolete.
