Microsoft Teams Gets Spam Calls Detection Feature

As a communication platform, Microsoft Teams is not exempt from the fact that spammers have discovered it for themselves and annoy them with calls. After a long test phase, teams should now receive a spam warning.

Microsoft Teams has received spam call detection. Users are then warned when an incoming call to Teams is identified as a potential spammer. The call is still displayed, but you can then decide whether you want to accept the call or not. This option is still in a test phase and is not yet available to all Teams users as Bleeping Computer reported.

As Nicole Herskowitz, general manager of Microsoft Teams explains, “Teams detects potential spam calls so that incoming calls can be answered safely.” Such incoming calls are then automatically flagged with a “spam probable” flag.

Microsoft 365 roadmap will come later

Microsoft is now in the process of adding this spam call notification feature. The new function was originally announced for December 2020 and should now be introduced for all users by the end of this month. It is then available on the desktop and on the web. The same applies to another new function. Microsoft has released the end-to-end encryption of 1: 1 VoIP calls, and every user in teams should be able to use it by the end of August.

Block PSTN calls

Companies using Private Branch Exchange (PBX) phone systems can block incoming calls from the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) that do not match a predefined list of number patterns at the global tenant level.

Individual Teams users can also block PSTN calls and manage their blocked numbers by going to the Edit Blocked Contacts menu under Settings> Privacy> Blocked Contacts. Alternatively, you can use the “Block calls without caller ID” option under “Blocked contacts” to block all calls without a transferring ID.
