Microsoft Testing Xbox Game Streaming In 1920×1080 Pixels

In order to catch up with competitors Google Stadia and Nvidia GeForce Now, Microsoft should improve the resolution of its game streaming service xCloud. Initial tests show an increase to the contemporary 1080p format in preparation for cloud gaming for the PC.

According to the Windows Central report, citing anonymous but trustworthy sources, Microsoft is currently testing the streaming of Xbox games in a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels in some regions. So far, Android smartphones and tablets could only be supplied with 720p quality, which has resulted in a spongy graphic quality, especially for higher-resolution mobile devices.

Microsoft xCloud for PCs could usher in the 1080p turnaround

So far, however, only developers seem to have access to the 1080p option. In addition, there is talk of the fact that this can only be used “in the vicinity” of Microsoft’s data centres. It is not yet known whether and when the higher resolution and thus an increase in graphic quality will be available for all users. However, it can be assumed that the Redmond company could make the change in the course of the release of xCloud within the Xbox Game Pass for PCs.

The streaming of selected Xbox titles via the browser not only clears the way for Microsoft’s cloud gaming on Windows PCs, but also for the use of xCloud on Apple devices such as iPhones, iPads and Macs. Technically, the company is thus catching up with its competitors Google Stadia and Nvidia GeForce Now, which have been using 1080p resolution for years.
