Microsoft tests improved update process for Windows 11 v2023

Microsoft starts the week with another test for the streamlined Windows 11 update process. Anyone who has already tried the Windows 11 update 2023 will therefore receive a cumulative update that does not appear to bring any visible changes. So this is a cumulative update that serves only one purpose: to test the servicing pipeline for updates from Windows 11.

All Windows Insiders who have opted for the Dev Channel now get the cumulative update KB5019342. According to Microsoft, there are no innovations with this new version (build 25211.1010) – this time there is only something new “under the hood”: The Windows team is now testing the update process again, i.e. the routine with which the new Windows updates are generally delivered.

With Windows 11, the group had promised to further optimize the size of the updates, so that with new updates not only cumulative changes are delivered directly to the user systems, but these packages are also fundamentally smaller. There are also three important “update packages”.

In addition to the patch service days that start security-relevant updates, there are also optional updates and activation packages. All updates are optimized so that users can benefit from smaller update packages. With Windows 11, the group had already changed the delivery and reduced the update packages by around 40 percent.

Test for future updates

It is precisely these improvements that are now being further optimized. The new cumulative update does not bring any innovations, it is now said in a supplementary article in the windows blog. We already know from the past that these tests for the maintenance pipeline often run alongside the actual function development for weeks, but users basically don’t notice any changes. Windows manager Brandon LeBlanc writes about the release:

Windows 11 build 25211.1010

“We are beginning to roll out cumulative update Build 25211.1010 (KB5019342). This update does not contain any new features and is intended to test our maintenance pipeline for builds in the dev channel.”
