Microsoft To Improve Search In Windows 11 Next Update

Microsoft is introducing further improvements that will appear with the upcoming Windows 11 update. This includes customized search in the taskbar, which only users in the US will see for the time being.

The Windows team has now provided another insider build. Windows 11 build number 25236 (10.0.25236.1000 rs_prerelease) now starts Windows search improvements from the taskbar. The update is now available for all users who have opted for the dev channel in the Insider program.

This new build includes a number of improvements as well as some other known issues that Microsoft has not yet found a fix for.

The only new feature is the search function, although the improvements will only be rolled out for US users. Tips for a better search are tried out, which are to be displayed to the user via the taskbar in order to improve the search results. Microsoft has not yet revealed any details. On the Windows blog, there is only an announcement about the changes in the preview version. As far as is known, the latest Insider build contains no other innovations – but a large number of bug fixes.

We have translated the release notes for you and added them to the end of the post. Some of the listed fixes from the Dev Channel Insider Preview builds may soon be included in the service updates for the previously released versions of Windows 11.

fooler:

• We fixed the issue resulting in natural voices like Guy or Jenny not speaking in Narrator.

Taskbar and system tray:

• Fixed an issue where opening the hidden icon flyout would show a File Explorer entry in the taskbar.
• We fixed an issue that caused the taskbar preview to freeze or appear blank and not open when trying to toggle between windows using the Windows key + (#).
• The “Show hidden icons” flyout in the taskbar should now respond to changes again to avoid empty spaces and columns.
• Fixed several taskbar-related issues affecting explorer.exe reliability.
• Fixed an issue that caused the volume icon in the taskbar to incorrectly show as muted.
• Fixed a GDI handle leak related to updating the notification center icon in the system tray that could cause explorer.exe to crash for users receiving large numbers of notifications.
• The narrator now reports the pinned and unpinned status of applications in the taskbar.

File Explorer:

• Fixed an issue that caused File Explorer to crash on closing tabs for some users.
• Fixed another issue that could cause broken dividers in the File Explorer navigation pane.

Settings:

• A change was made to hide the battery graph on the Power & Battery page when a UPS is connected, as the capacity information displayed was incorrect in this case.
• If you don’t have a kiosk set up, we’ve now updated the text on Accounts > Other Users > Kiosk to make it clearer that you must do so so it doesn’t appear as a dead end.
• Fixed an issue where an audio device unexpectedly appeared in the list of output devices under System > Sound in properties when it was actually an input device.
• In the accessibility settings for color filters, the “Inverted” option should now work correctly again and not only set the PC to grayscale colors.

Miscellaneous:

• Fixed an issue that caused some Insiders to show a bugcheck with the error SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED in newer builds.
