Minecraft Called NFTs a scam and refuses to integrate them into its game
Mojang, the studio behind Minecraft, was very clear on the issue of NFTs in his last blog post: They have no place in the game. According to the company, they have no value to players or the video game, besides most of them lead to irreparable losses. Thus, it prohibits any use related to these digital assets.
If the (almost) general enthusiasm for NFTs seems to be behind us now, some followers continue to believe in this parallel economy. This means that some are still hoping that these will integrate their favorite game. The question caused a stir earlier in the year when several studios announced they were embarking on the project, often just before returning in the face of public outcry. But while some studios have not yet dropped the case, such as Square Enix, many are categorically refusing to include NFTs in their games. Minecraft, one of the most popular titles in the world, had been silent on the matter until now. We bet several players have asked Mojang the question as the latter ended up destroying all hopes of seeing NFTs in the construction game one day.
Minecraft says no to NFTs
The reason is simple: NFTs are not aligned with Minecraft’s values, the studio explains. If that’s not clear enough, the latter expands a bit further in a much more frontier way: “Each of these uses of NFTs and other blockchain technologies creates digital ownership based on scarcity and exclusion.” Do you want more? “We are also concerned that some third-party NFTs are unreliable and end up costing players buying them.”
Translation: NFTs are scams that only serve to trick players into dumping their money for little benefit. Mojang repeatedly reiterates his stance on the subject, stating that “the speculative pricing and investment mentality surrounding NFTs distracts attention from the game and encourages profit, which we believe is incompatible with the joy and pleasure of our players’ long-term success. In other words, NFTs in Minecraft, that’s not for now. Mojang isn’t the first to position itself in this way. Last February, the itch.io site already qualified NFTs as a scam.
