MIX Fold 2: Xiaomi competes with Samsung in foldable smartphones
The Chinese manufacturer Xiaomi apparently wants to soon compete with Samsung in the market for smartphones with a foldable display. The launch of the Xiaomi Mix Fold2, which should apparently be the thinnest foldable yet, has now been announced for Thursday. Via the Chinese Twitter counterpart Weibo, Xiaomi published the first teaser image of the Xiaomi Mix Fold 2. A video was also published in which the device can be seen in animation.
It is clearly a horizontally foldable smartphone that should attract attention with its extremely thin design. Xiaomi Mix Fold 2 – New foldable smartphone is ultra-thin The video shows that when unfolded, Xiaomi’s Mix Fold 2 is probably only slightly thicker than the USB Type-C connector used for the power supply. Xiaomi itself speaks of a thickness of only 5.4 millimeters. When you fold the device, Xiaomi’s new foldable smartphone is still thinner than Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 4. To achieve this, Xiaomi has probably reduced the folding radius of the flexible screen.
The hinge of the Mix Fold 2 would also have been revised. Xiaomi plans to reveal exact details on August 11, 2022. According to the rumor mill from China, the device will have a main display with a full 8-inch diagonal, which will offer a resolution of 2.5K and a maximum refresh rate of up to 120 Hertz. According to previous reports, the LTPO-based panel will have a different aspect ratio compared to the previous model.
The technology under the hood should be state-of-the-art, so it should include Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8+ Gen1 and 12 gigabytes of RAM. The internal memory would be 512 GB or even one terabyte. The high-end package with the latest technology is unlikely to be particularly cheap, although it is still unclear whether Xiaomi is planning an international launch of the Xiaomi Mix Fold 2.
