NASA & Google Discovered another Solar System with 8 planets
NASA and Google have recently claimed that they have found another solar system that has eight planets as well.
This news has been announced this Thursday and it is declared a ‘major discovery’.
A star system called Kepler-90’ was already discovered but it had seven planets. Now via Google’s artificial intelligence (AI) software two more planets have been discovered by astronomers.
One of the planets is part of Kepler-90 and is called ‘Kepler-90i’. The planet is hot and rocky quite similar to the sun. The distance of the planet from Earth is 2,545 light years. The AI software used the machine to find the planet using the information recorded by NASA’s Kepler space telescope.
Kepler-90i is the third planet from its sun. It orbits once after 14 days. Life is not possible there because of very hot temperature that is 426°C. Andrew Vanderburg one of the astronomers said, “Kepler-90i is not a place I’d like to visit.”
It is the first time a whole solar system is discovered that have exactly the same number of planets as our solar system.

Vanderburg said, “The Kepler-90 star system is like a mini version of our solar system. You have small planets inside and big planets outside, but everything is scrunched in much closer. For the first time we know for sure the Solar System is not the sole record holder for the number of planets. Maybe there are systems out here with so many planets they make ours sound ordinary. It’s possible that Kepler-90 has, even more, planets we might not even know about.”
As per Christopher Shallue, a senior software engineer at Google AI the process of discovering these planets was very easy. It only took them 2 hours to discover them.
Researchers feel that AI will aid in further discoveries in near future.
