Netflix To Start Showing Ghibli Movies Outside The U.S.

Netflix has announced recently that it acquired the rights to 21 feature films from Japanese animation studio Ghibli, the company intends to show it outside the U.S, Canada, and Japan. Netflix will add the content of the movie to its database next month.

It was a deal indeed because Netflix was unable to close the deal with Ghibli for a long time, the Japanese studio was consistently refusing the content to be aired on Netflix, until the quite recent development we see now when Japanese company allowed the digital versions of their content in any format.

Ghibli started selling downloadable copies last month The Verge reported. Netflix has plans to launch the Ghibli movies across Asia, Europe, Middle East, Africa, New Zealand and Australia including the U.S., and Canada.

Netflix will subtitle the movies in 28 different languages and dubbing up to 20 languages. This is indeed a big task to do which will obviously take some time. Netflix will start releasing movies from February 1 including the popular titles Castle in the Sky, Kiki’s Delivery Service, Porco Rosso, Only Yesterday, My Neighbour Totoro, Tales from Earthsea and Ocean Waves.

On March 1, the company will drop Princess Mononoke, Sprinted Away, Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, Arrietty, My Neighbours Yamadas, The Cat Returns, and The Tale of the Princess Kaguya. Moreover, on April 1, the company will add more including Whisper of the Heart, Pom Poko, From Up on Poppy Hill, Howl’s Moving Castle, Ponyo, Marnie Was There and The Wind Rises.
