New lab for 3 fritzBox routers fixes errors & optimizes Zigbee

This week, no other routers from AVM received the new FritzOS 8. At least a new laboratory is now available for three FritzBox models. This brings improvements in the smart home area and fixes existing errors. AVM

Preparation for FritzOS 8

AVM is working hard to provide more and more FritzBoxes with FritzOS 8. The current firmware has already found its way onto ten of the devices. In order to increase this number, more routers are being prepared for the big update. Therefore, three models are now receiving a new Fritz laboratory. The update is now available for download in the specified version for the following boxes:

  • FritzBox 5690 Pro – Version: 7.90-116703
  • FritzBox 6690 Cable – Version: 7.90-116693
  • FritzBox 6670 Cable – Version: 7.90-116737

Improved compatibility on the top model

The FritzBox 5690 Pro, which only appeared on the market in June 2024, receives two improvements as the top model for fiber optic and DSL. AVM is continuing to improve the router’s smart home functions and increasing Zigbee compatibility. In addition, the stability of the entire router system is increased. An error in the DECT/FritzFon area has also been fixed. A FritzFon handheld device no longer signals that the WLAN is active even though it is actually deactivated.

More stability with Zigbee

With the FritzBox 6690 and 6670 Cable, there is also new beta firmware for two of AVM’s cable routers. While the 6690 only comes with the infamous “detail improvements” as part of the update, the 6670 also receives an improvement in the Smart Home area. As with the 5690 Pro, Zigbee is used here. Instead of increasing compatibility, the update increases stability.

Download and install

If you would like to install the new firmware on your router, you can initiate the update via the user interface of the three FritzBox models. Alternatively, the beta software can also be downloaded from the Laboratory website downloaded and installed manually. As always, router settings should be backed up before updating so that they can be easily restored in the event of a problem.
