The new Mac Studio models featuring the M4 Max and M3 Ultra chips now include support for Low Power Mode, as highlighted in an updated Apple support document.
Low Power Mode reduces the Mac Studio’s fan noise, making it ideal for quieter environments where reduced noise is essential. It also lowers power consumption, which is especially helpful for users who leave their computers running for extended periods.
However, the quieter fan noise feature requires macOS Sequoia 15.1 or later to function. The latest Mac Studio comes pre-installed with macOS Sequoia 15.3.
Interestingly, some Reddit users have reported that macOS Sequoia 15.3 also brought Low Power Mode to the earlier Mac Studio models with M2 Max chips and likely M2 Ultra configurations. However, this update isn’t mentioned in Apple’s official documentation.
As confirmed by the Apple support document, the Mac Studio still doesn’t include High Power Mode, which enables additional cooling for more demanding tasks.
For a full list of Macs that support Low Power Mode with reduced fan noise, you can check out the Apple support page. Low Power Mode is a relatively new feature for the Mac Studio lineup, offering users more flexibility and control over their device’s performance and environment.
