Intel’s new desktop processors are coming soon. A new benchmark for the Core Ultra 9 285K now supports the results of an earlier test that did not confirm particularly outstanding multi-core performance for another Arrow Lake chip.
Little by little, more and more benchmarks of the upcoming Arrow Lake processors can be found on the corresponding test websites. Now another performance protocol for the Intel Core Ultra 285K has appeared.
However, the absolute top model among desktop CPUs only delivers a convincing result in the single-core test. The processor achieves in the benchmark of Passmark a value of 5268. This puts the Intel CPU comfortably ahead of the second-placed Intel Core i9 14900KS with 4869 points. The strongest chip from AMD is by far the AMD Ryzen 9 9950X with 4739 points.
In contrast to a Geekbench test that appeared a good six weeks ago, in which the Core Ultra 9 285K was able to outperform its competition in the multi-core test, the CPU is lagging behind the two processors mentioned above in the corresponding Passmark ranking .
The Intel chip can only collect 46,872 points here. This roughly corresponds to the performance of a Core i9 13900. This puts it well behind the 14900KS, which has 62,502 points. AMD’s 9950X has an even clearer lead with 66,609 points. That’s a difference of almost 30 percent compared to the new Intel flagship.
However, it should not go unmentioned that the Core Ultra CPU with its 24 cores only works with 24 threads. Both the i9 and Ryzen 9 use 32 threads. In addition, the Core Ultra is the most economical in a comparison of the three chips with a listed TDP of 125W.
Ultimately, according to Passmark, it may be an engineering sample that is very close to the series version of the CPU, but does not correspond to it 100 percent. The processor that will ultimately be available for purchase in stores could be different from the one tested here.
Nevertheless, the result supports another test with the non-K variant of the CPU. The Intel Core Ultra 9 285 also showed significant weaknesses in a multi-core test. The release of the Arrow Lake CPUs is not far away. The presentation of the processors could take place as early as October 10th.
