Nintendo games will be launched on competitor’s console

Nintendo is all set to push some of its popular video games to its rival’s console, this is happening for the first time in decades.

Some games from the company’s older Wii console will now appear on the Nvidia Shield set-top box in China. In the past, Nintendo has very rarely allowed its originals games to be included in rival’s consoles.

The video games market in China is quite big which was valued at $24 billion in 2016.

The Japanese gaming company does not sell its latest console which is Nintendo Switch in the Chinese market. The Chinese people mostly play games on PCs and Mobiles despite the fact that China has relaxed the trade rules and allowed foreign consoles to be sold in China during 2014.

The games Nintendo to include in Nvidia Shield are Twilight Princess which was first released in 2006, New Super Mario Bros Wii which was released in 2009 and The Legend of Zelda. Nintendo made video games for mobiles such as Super Mario Run and Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp but it has not worked collaboratively with any other rival consoles before and not released its games on their consoles.

This is the first time in the history that Nintendo is changing its strategy, the Wii titles would be re-released for Nvidia Shield console, Nintendo will upgrade the graphics of the games to high-definition that will be streamed through Nvidia Geforce Now platform.

Nintendo and Nvidia are already partners in the supply of Tegra X1 processor to be used in Nintendo Switch console. The partnership is now growing towards making strategic alliances, the benefits come to both companies in general, said Piers Harding-Rolls, technology consultant HIS Markit.

This deal will allow Nintendo to grab the insights from Chinese market by throwing its older content in. It would also be a great chance for Nvidia to measure the temperature of the Chinese market, by offering some exclusive and prominent games to sell in the region, Piers added.
