Nintendo Switch 2: Leak reveals design details

An accidentally published trailer from an accessory manufacturer may show the design of the Nintendo Switch 2. The similarity to the previous model and an additional button are causing extensive discussions in the gaming community.

First look at the Nintendo Switch 2?

The gaming world is eagerly awaiting the official announcement of the Nintendo Switch 2. Now a leak from accessory manufacturer Satisfye could provide a first look at the design of the new console. The Switch 2 was apparently seen in a now-deleted trailer for the “ZenGrip 2,” a grip extension for an upcoming handheld.

The blurry image shows a console that looks similar to the current Switch model. What is noticeable, however, is an additional button under the home button, which is not present on the first Switch. This innovation corresponds to previous leaks of alleged Joy-Con prototypes, which also had an additional “C button”. Technology gifts: Great Xmas deals at Media Markt and Saturn (advertisement)

Switch 2: Evolution instead of revolution?

The strong similarity to the previous model causes divided opinions in the gaming community. While some fans are disappointed and were hoping for a more innovative design, others argue that Nintendo is sticking with the tried and tested and wants to make the transition easier for existing users.

It is important to emphasize that the leaked image is most likely a render. Accessory manufacturers like Satisfye often receive information about the dimensions of new consoles at an early stage in order to be able to develop their products in a timely manner. The final design of the Switch 2 could still have deviations.

Speculation about release and price

Insiders are currently assuming a possible announcement of the Switch 2 in January or February and a release between June and July. An earlier start in March was also hinted at a few weeks ago. The price could range between 400 and 500 euros.

Satisfye itself plans to launch the ZenGrip 2 in spring 2025, which supports the assumed time frame for the launch of the new console. Nintendo itself is keeping a low profile so far and has not confirmed the design or release date of the Switch 2. However, the fact that various leaks are similar in their details suggests that we could already be very close to the actual design of the console.

Looking back at the success of the first Switch

The first Nintendo Switch, released in 2017, revolutionized the handheld market with its hybrid concept. It allowed gamers to seamlessly switch between TV mode and mobile gaming. This approach proved extremely successful and made the Switch one of the best-selling consoles of all time. As of September 2024, over 146 million units have been sold worldwide.

With the Switch 2, Nintendo faces the challenge of continuing the success of its predecessor while at the same time offering technical innovations. Retaining the basic design could indicate that Nintendo is focusing on evolution rather than revolution and further optimizing proven concepts.
