Nintendo Switch 2 May Follow LCD Launch with OLED Model – Samsung Pushes for Partnership

Nintendo could pursue a strategy similar to the predecessor for the Switch 2: an OLED model should follow the console with LCD display in the future. Samsung campaigns as a potential partner – and further expands his cooperation with the Japanese.

OLED technology for Switch 2

The Nintendo Switch 2 first comes onto the market with an LCD display. But it is already becoming apparent that Nintendo could repeat a proven strategy. The 8-inch display of the console, which already offers HDR and 120 Hz, could be replaced by OLED technology in a later version. Nintendo and Samsung have already intensified their cooperation to increase the production of the Switch 2. This partnership could still be deepened. Samsung Display is actively promoting the idea of an OLED version – a strategy that has already paid off in the previous model. The Switch Oled finally exceeded the sales of the original model. Strong position from Samsung

Loud Bloomberg Samsung is becoming increasingly important for Nintendo as a partner. The Korean technology group has already been commissioned to produce the main chips for the Switch 2. This decision could help Nintendo to deliver more than 20 million units of the console by March 2026. Samsung also supplies Nintendo NAND flash memory and OLED displays for the current switch. Cooperation between the two companies has proven to be fruitful, which increases the probability that Samsung will also play a central role in Switch 2.

Production capacity in focus

For Nintendo, the production of sufficient quantities is a special challenge, since the Switch 2 could probably become the fastest sold console in history. The company had to apologize that it could no longer accept pre -orders – 2.2 million inquiries were made in Japan alone. The original switch, which came onto the market in 2017, only received an OLED upgrade in 2021.

In addition to the improved display, this model also offered a more stable base, improved speakers and more internal memory. It can be assumed that Nintendo could pursue a similar schedule on Switch 2, which would mean that an OLED version will be released at the earliest in 2028. OLED technology offers several advantages over LCD displays: deeper black levels, better contrasts, lively colors and potentially lower energy consumption. These properties could be particularly advantageous for a portable console such as the Switch 2, since they could improve the image quality and extend the battery life.
