Nokia Phones Vanish from US Shelves as HMD Retreats Amid Tariff Pressures

The new US tariffs obviously make it increasingly difficult for smaller electronics manufacturers to survive in the United States. They now ensure that HMD is withdrawing from Nokia’s licensees in smartphones from the USA.

Difficult ‘economic & geopolitical’ situation

The Finnish company Human Mobile Devices, better known as HMD, has announced its retreat from the US market. Like many other globally active companies, HMD has to deal with difficult economic and geopolitical conditions, the company shared against the US magazine Wired with. After an in -depth examination, it was therefore decided to reduce the company’s activities in the United States. HMD also assured that the company will continue to meet all obligations in terms of support and warranty to its US customers. HMD Fusion: The modular “Nokia” smartphone in hands-on

Overall, HMD sees itself well equipped

The company thanked its US employees and will provide support in terms of the planned changes. This should mean that HMD releases its workforce in the United States, but wants to find socially acceptable solutions. For the future, one would continue to be geared towards long-term growth, whereby the “mainstream business and key segments such as family, security and microfinance” continued to deliver good results, it continued. It is currently still unclear whether HMD is also planning changes in Europe. After the expiry of its license contracts for the name Nokia, the company began to drive away its smartphones under its own brand.

Among other things, the HMD skyline caused a sensation last year, as it revived many design elements from the popular Nokia Lumia series and offers in a modern robe made of aluminum with a removable back and modern technology. For the USA, the end of the activities of HMD means that the “Nokia” brand disappears from everyday technology again. In this country, however, the situation is no different, since only a few models offered by HMD bear the name “Nokia”. These models should also be sold out very soon as soon as the stocks of trade are exhausted.
