Nvidia RTX 3080 Ti To Offer Up To 16GB Memory

The US chip manufacturer Nvidia seems to be preparing a memory upgrade for its highly sought-after GeForce RTX 3080 and RTX 3070 Ti graphics cards. First indications from a product database indicate variants with 12GB or 16GB GDDR6X-VRAM.

Considering their performance, the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 and RTX 3070 Ti are quite suitable for gaming in high 4K resolution. However, the video memory of both graphics cards is a bottleneck. The RTX 3080 is only equipped with 10 GB, the RTX 3070 Ti with only 8GB of GDDR6X memory. Similar to the recently introduced new edition of the RTX 2060 in a 12GB version, Nvidia could also upgrade the popular Ampere cards without introducing the equally expected super variants .

Gigabyte confirmed RTX 3000 cards with more memory

As VideoCardz reported, the reason for the acceptance is new database entries from the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC), which is responsible, among other things, for the approval of electronics in countries such as Russia, Kazakhstan, and Belarus. In these, Nvidia’s graphics card partner Gigabyte states that it wants to sell various custom models that could be equipped with a larger video memory in the near future. Cryptic product names like “GV-N3080AORUSX WB-12GD” (RTX 3080) and “GV-N307TAORUS M-16GD” (RTX 3070 Ti) suggest.

Thus, the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 could in the future be equipped with 12GB instead of 10GB and the RTX 3070 Ti with 16 GB instead of 8 GB of video memory. The fact that the RTX 3080 has to get by with a minor upgrade is probably due to the RTX 3080 Ti, whose 12GB GDDR6X memory is not trumped. The flagship remains the RTX 3090 with 24GB VRAM. It remains to be seen whether Gigabyte will bring the graphics card to market in the near future. The EEC entries do not always stand for final products.
