Nvidia: Serious security gaps in GraKa drivers

Driver security risk

In one Security Bulletin On its website, Nvidia points out that the company’s GPU display drivers and VGPU software have a number of serious security vulnerabilities. The resulting risk was rated as “high” for all of the eight vulnerabilities without exception. In an emergency, they allow attackers to gain unauthorized access to the system and execute malicious code.

In addition, malicious actors could use the gaps to escalate privileges, read information and manipulate data on the system. The company did not provide further details about what exactly the gaps are, under what conditions they can be exploited or how those affected can recognize an attack.

All GeForce cards affected

All products in the GeForce series, Nvidia RTX, Quadro, NVS and Tesla are affected. This applies to both Windows and Linux. In plain language, this means that millions of users with a GeForce graphics card should update their drivers as quickly as possible.

Nvidia points out that the security gaps will be closed with the Windows drivers for GeForce cards in version 566.03. For Nvidia RTX, Quadro and NVS these are versions 566.03, 553.24 and 538.95. On Linux, the drivers in versions 565.57.01, 550.127.05 and 535.216.01 fix the problems.

Users can obtain the necessary update for their respective hardware directly from Nvidia on the Driver website search and download. Alternatively, owners of a GeForce graphics card can initiate the update via the Nvidia control panel or the GeForce Experience.
