One UI 9: New Galaxy interface may be ready sooner than expected

Owners of a Samsung Galaxy S25 could receive the major update to One UI 9 much earlier than previously thought. The first internal test runs have apparently already begun, which indicates an accelerated schedule for software development.

Early start for the S25 update

While One UI 8.5 is currently being distributed to a number of Galaxy smartphones, Samsung has started internal testing of the new One UI 9 user interface for the Galaxy S25 series smartphones. The operating system based on Android 17, of which the first images were shown some time ago, is currently being tested behind closed doors on last year’s devices. This suggests that the developers are ahead of schedule for delivering the software.

A look at the past shows the changed speed. For One UI 8, the first internal test runs with the Galaxy S24 series only started in mid-June last year. The fact that the current preparations for the Galaxy S25 are now starting around two weeks earlier gives hope for faster completion.

As the leaker Torun Vats on X reported, the first internal test build has already been spotted. However, the exact version number remains encrypted so far. According to current developments, a public beta program for the Galaxy S25 could start as early as next month. However, users of older Galaxy smartphones like the S24 will probably have to be patient a little longer. Similar activities can usually only be expected there later.

Beta testing and user feedback

Such beta tests are a proven means at Samsung of collecting feedback from the community. The developers use the data to optimize performance and eliminate sources of errors in time before the final rollout. For technology-loving users, they offer a good opportunity to try out new features such as advanced customization options or improved animations.

However, caution is often advised for everyday use on primary devices. While the update for the Galaxy S25 is still being checked internally, the first beta tests are already underway on the current flagships of the Galaxy S26 series. According to reports, the software is even being tested for the as yet unreleased Galaxy S26 FE.

Premiering on new Galaxy devices

The official premiere of One UI 9 is unlikely to take place on the S-Class. Samsung is rumored to be planning an Unpacked event in London on July 22nd. The Koreans’ new foldable smartphones will be presented there. The expected models include the Galaxy Z Flip 8 and the Galaxy Z Fold 8. The devices will already be equipped with the new user interface ex works. For owners of a Galaxy S25, the current pace still means positive news.
