Only 1% Of AppStore Rejected Developers Appealed

During the recent Epic vs. Apple trial, the director of Apple’s app review program said that after most apps were rejected, developers did not appeal in return or as a response to fix the issues, and if developers appealed, most of them would get support.

On the witness stand, Apple’s Director Trystan Kosmynka provided some details about the App Store review, especially the appeal process if an app on the App Store is rejected.

While talking to the judges, Kosmynka talked about the mistakes Apple made during the app review process. He said that in fact, less than 1% of developers complained about the app rejections. He added that most appeals would be supported if the developers had to turn around and file the appeal against the app rejection.

I think the number of errors is a small part of the effectiveness of the entire process,” Kosmynka said. Apple will confirm whether it has made an error during the review based on the number of complaints received.

Apple made it easier for developers to challenge specific guidelines in appeals. This is mainly due to the rejection of the popular e-mail application Hey developed by Basecamp Tucao. At the time, Apple blocked Hey from being updated after initially approving its listing because the email service did not provide an in-app subscription option. After Hey added a free tier to make it comply with Apple’s guidelines, the app was finally allowed to release updates.
