Phantom Liberty First major Expansion Unveiled: Cyberpunk 2077

“Phantom Liberty”: Cyberpunk 2077 wants to open a new chapter with its first major expansion after the bumpy start. As CD Projekt Red announced at the launch, the stories of V, Johnny Silverhand, and Co. will only be continued on next-gen systems.

The first major story expansion is called Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty

CD Projekt Red had a lot to announce on its recent Night City Wire live stream. In addition to the Edgerunners update 1.6 and information about the anime series of the same name, which premieres on Netflix this month, it is now also being made official with the first story DLC for the digital sci-fi adventure.

Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty will apparently continue the story of V with a kind of secret agent story next year – the first short teaser trailer already seems to reveal that much. Also featured: Keanu Reeves is allowed to return as Johnny Silverhand in the first major story expansion – and apparently he doesn’t approve of V doing business with the New United States of America.

“We have a lot of fun with them [der Erweiterung]” said game director Gabriel Amatengelo loudly on IGN in the live stream. “We have a lot of fun with them [der Erweiterung]said game director Gabriel Amatengelo. “It’s a whole new storytelling style and the cast of characters.”

And of course one of the other most important characters in Cyberpunk 2077 can continue to grow with “Phantom Liberty”: the city of Night City itself. According to Amatengelo, this will be expanded to include a new district in which most of the new storylines will come together. The first new locations can also be seen in the trailer, and new weapons are also briefly shown.

Continues on next-gen

With the announcement of “Phantom Liberty” also comes another certainty: the Edgerunners update will be the last major update for old-gen consoles, after which only the bare minimum of maintenance will be done. The story expansion is then reserved for next-gen consoles and the PC.
