Pixel users can now conveniently use Passkeys

A username and a password are common things when using internet services. However, it has changed over time with the arrival of other ways to unlock accounts. One such common method that has been widely adopted with mobile devices is passkeys. A passkey relies on a fingerprint, face scan, or device pin to unlock a smartphone. In other instances, it relies on a password manager to enable users to log into websites and services after a brief interaction between the website and the password manager.

As of now, the tech giant Google wants to increase the usage of Passkeys. It is putting in efforts to make it convenient for Pixel users to use Passkeys on current accounts. The Google Password Manager was upgraded with a new passkey upgrade feature back in December 2023 with Pixel Feature Drop. This allows users to find out which stored accounts are password-compatible. Users can easily switch to a passkey with only a few clicks using Google Password Manager.

According to Google, the new Passkey experience is now available on the Pixel Tablet, Pixel 5a, and recent versions. Google Password Manager on non-Pixel devices will be upgraded with this feature in the future. Google claims that it has collaborated with several new companies to introduce the passkey upgrade feature to their services. Reportedly, the company has partnered with Nintendo, PayPal, Uber, Adobe, Best Buy, DocuSign, eBay, Kayak, Money Forward, and Yahoo Japan. It is expected that TikTok will join this list in the future. The process of upgrading to a passkey for these apps and services may be made much simpler by using Google Password Manager, which will direct you to the exact location.
