PlayStation 5: Sony will distribute a major VRR update later this week

According to Sony, the VRR update announced in late March for the next-gen console and highly anticipated by PS5 players will be out this week. Shortly after launch, 15 games will benefit from variable refresh rate support via HDMI 2.1.

Almost a year and a half after the launch of the PlayStation 5, Sony is equipping its high-end console with the Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) via a software update. The official blog from the manufacturer has promised a worldwide update for this week. The VRR support ensures synchronization of the refresh rate between the monitor or television and the PS5 console – provided the end devices are compatible.

15 games should receive a VRR patch in time

This improves the visual performance of PS5 games by minimizing or eliminating visual artifacts such as frame pacing issues and screen tearing effects. The gameplay of many PS5 titles feels smoother than scenes seamlessly, graphics look sharper and input lag is reduced,” says Sony. PS5 games that have already been released will require an appropriate support patch, which has already been announced for the next 15 titles.

  • Astro’s playroom
  • Call of Duty: Vanguard
  • Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War
  • death loop
  • lot 2
  • Devil May Cry 5 Special Edition
  • DIRTY 5
  • god fall
  • Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered
  • Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales
  • Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart
  • Resident Evil Village
  • Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands
  • Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege
  • Tribes of Midgard

The distribution of the game patches is expected “in the coming weeks”. Sony refers to the notices of the relevant publishers or developers for accurate information. After the PS5 update, Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) is enabled by default for all supported games. Should problems arise, players can disable them at any time in the settings under the menu item “Screen and video”. Here the option can also be applied to unsupported titles. However, the chance of “unexpected visual effects” occurring is higher.
