PS5 Sales Exceeded 25 Million Units

Sony has reached a new milestone in terms of the success of its current generation of consoles. The electronics company recently reported that more than 25 million PlayStation 5s have been sold. However, things are obviously not progressing as quickly as hoped.

Sony said it sold 3.3 million PS5 consoles in total this quarter when it announced its latest business figures today. This number basically corresponds exactly to the sales figures for the same quarter of the previous year in 2021, so the total number of PlayStation 5s sold has now reached the 25 million mark.

More profit same quantities

Sony recently earned even more from the PlayStation 5 on the same sales figures as in the same period last year, which is partly due to the price increases announced a few months ago. Overall, the company’s sales of the PS5 over the past three months totaled around $4.92 billion, an increase of 12 percent over the same quarter of 2021.

However, the prospects are not positive in every respect. A few months ago, Sony announced that it would increase console sales to 18 million units in 2022. However, due to external causes such as the war in Ukraine and the resulting massive inflation, Sony is also likely to suffer from demand problems, although the price increases may not have left their mark.

It is now assumed that Sony will only sell around 11.5 million PS5 consoles for the year as a whole. This would mean that the same number of devices would be sold this year as in the previous year and would therefore remain far below the original forecasts. The company itself continues to target 18 million units sold. For the next financial year, the number of PS5 sales is even expected to increase to around 23 million devices. Due to the uncertain global situation, however, all of these forecasts should still be treated with some caution.
