PTA Directed to Stop Companies from Sending Promotional Calls, Messages

It has been directed by Lahore High Court to Pakistan Telecommunication Authority to take action against sending of promotional calls and text messages by different companies.

A petition was placed in LHC by a citizen questioning the extensive promotional text messages and calls by different firms. Justice Shahid Jamil Khan conducted the hearing in which the PTA Communication Director Muhammad Shafique appeared before the court.

The PTA Communication Director failed to answer the queries of the judge satisfactorily. The judge said that it has been frequently complained by mobile phone users that they receive messages from water tank cleaning service providers.

As per the PTA officer that is no proper process to control these messages. To which the judge replied that PTA can at least take action against the mobile numbers that send these unnecessary promotional text messages and calls.

As per the petitioner’s counsel, the mobile phone users face issues due to these unneeded text messages and calls. PTA should play its role being the regulatory body and ban such promotional activities.

The hearing of the case has been adjourned till 19th July.
