Qualcomm heading towards 5G with latest release of 2Gbps LTE Modem

Qualcomm has just introduced its new 2Gbps LTE modem for smartphones just before the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2018 at the end of February. The modem Snapdragon X24 promises to hit top download speeds up to 2Gbps.

Qualcomm claims that the new X24 is the first category 20 LTE modem which can accommodate that much speed, it is also the first 7nm process chip on the market to date, Qualcomm has doubled the speed in this modem as compared to the previous LTE modem which is quite an achievement ahead of 5G launch.

Qualcomm has recently announced that the company is collaborating with Oppo to launch 5G enabled phones by the end of 2018 or early 2019. The speed produced by the latest X24 Modem is the precursor in setting the ground for 5G launch.

Snapdragon X24 supports up to seven carrier aggregation which is the industry benchmark to date, Samsung latest Exynos chipset which is the fastest chip in smartphones, however, supports up to 5 aggregated LTE carriers and allows the maximum of 20 concurrent LTE streams. Qualcomm further explains and said, this will allow X24 devices to connect to the whole range of spectrum bands that are available to the carriers increasing the overall performance of the of the phones way beyond what we currently have. Even the most advanced carriers in the United States are currently using the maximum of three carrier aggregation right now.

Qualcomm is now carefully heading towards the 5G technology by accelerating the 4G experience to maximum possible level, according to Qualcomm, making sure to reach faster 4G speeds will make the transition process less painful for users.

Qualcomm plans to launch devices equipped with Snapdragon X24 somewhere by the end of 2018, the modem will work in tandem along with Snapdragon X50 5G NR modem in multimode 4G/5G devices when the 5G networks will start to roll out in 2019.
