There are concrete indications for a new graphics card from AMD’s Radeon family. Accordingly, board partner Sapphire will release at least two variants of a Radeon RX 6700 that differ from the previous Radeon RX 6700 XT. The French website Cowcotland supports the hints with images of the Saphhire Radeon RX 6700 and the larger Sapphire Radeon RX 6700 Pulse.
The Radeon RX 6700 is said to use the variant of the Navi 22 GPU known from the mobile Radeon RX 6700M, which is based on 36 compute units and 80 MB “Infinity Cache”. The faster Radeon RX 6700 XT, on the other hand, offers Navi 22 with 40 active CUs and 96 MB Infinity Cache. This in turn means only 2,304 instead of 2,560 FP32 ALUs for the RX 6700.
In addition, the memory interface is narrower with 160 bits instead of 192 bits, and only 10 GB instead of 12 GB GDDR6 memory is connected. But that’s still quite a lot for this class. With the same memory clock (16 Gbps), the memory bandwidth drops from 384 GB/s to 320 GB/s.
Sapphire Radeon RX 6700 (Pulse) (Image: Cowcottland) Both models, ie the “reference” and pulse models, should have GPU clock speeds of 2.330 MHz (game clock) and 2.495 MHz (boost clock). That would be slightly faster than the RX 6700M, which itself is spec’d with 135 watts TBP (Total Board Power). However, the desktop model should have a significantly higher TBP.
Both graphics cards have an 8-pin connector for power. While Sapphire’s RX 6700 occupies two slots, the RX 6700 Pulse should have 2.2 slots. The connector uses PCIe 4.0 x16 like the faster models in the series, while the RX 6600 XT only offers PCIe 4.0 x8. Connections are identical on both models with three DisplayPort 1.4 and one HDMI 2.1. The Radeon RX 6000 models in comparison
Cowcotland writes that the prices of the Sapphire RX 6700 will start at 569 euros. In this country, however, the price should drop considerably, because the RX 6700 XT is already available for 500 euros. Since the RX 6700 should be available in a week, June 9, 2022, more details should be available soon. It will then also become clear whether other board partners will follow.
