Remaster will be released at the end of October for PC and PS5

Just seven years after its original release, Horizon Zero Dawn is getting a new edition. In addition to updated graphics and audio, the studio Guerrilla Games promises technical improvements for PC and PlayStation 5. Players will be able to immerse themselves in the remaster of Aloy’s first adventure in just about a month.

Better graphics for PC and PS5

Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered will include revised character models as well as improved animations, shaders and textures. More than ten hours of dialogue have been re-recorded and the game will have an improved sound design overall.

 The first trailer for the remaster shows what the improvements look like in practice, with excerpts from the PC version. This also supports Nvidia DLSS 3 and AMD FSR 3.1 with frame generation and ultrawide resolutions.

The developers’ goal is to raise Horizon Zero Dawn to the same graphical level as its successor Horizon Forbidden West – or even beyond, because the game is being optimized directly for the PlayStation 5 Pro, which will be released in November. Guerrilla mentions improved depth of field, higher quality representation of clouds and a higher rendering distance for foliage.

The remaster also promises further improvements beyond the graphics. Aloy can now travel faster between different settlements and players now receive haptic feedback via the DualSense wireless controllers. Support for Tempest 3D audio on the PS5 is also mentioned.

Upgrade to remaster possible

Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered will be released on October 31, 2024 for PlayStation 5 and PC (Steam, Epic Games Store). If you already own the original version of the game, you can upgrade to the new edition for $9.99. This also includes the story expansion The Frozen Wilds and is even compatible with old save games.
