Reportedly Apple Intends to Include OLED in Nine Additional Devices by 2027

In accordance with a new report shared by ET News, the Cupertino-based tech company Apple will add the OLED display technology to nine new devices. More specifically, by 2027. In 2024, the company is going to use OLED display technology on both models of iPad Pro. However, in 2026, the company will introduce the new display technology to the iPad Mini and iPad Air. Reportedly, the iPad Air will come with the same 10.9-inch display, whereas there will be a slight modification in the display size of the iPad Mini, i.e., from 8.3- to 8.7 inches in size.

In contrast to this, the company will introduce OLED display technology to the 12.9-inch model of the iPad Air. Some reports indicate that the company will debut this device with an LCD early in 2024. Reportedly, the company intends to use a low-temperature polycrystalline oxide (LTPO) OLED panel for the ‌iPad Pro‌. For the ‌iPad mini‌ and ‌iPad Air‌, the company will be using the single-stack low-temperature polycrystalline silicon (LTPS) panel. In simple words, only the high-end models will feature ProMotion for refresh rates (up to 120Hz).

Apple plans to replace the OLED panels on the iPad Pro in 2027 with a new generation of panels that have better light efficiency because of the Color Filter on Encapsulation (CoE). This improvement is expected to result in a 20% reduction in power usage. With the help of color filters on the iPad, the company might be able to use the under-display camera technology for the first time. In 2025, the 16-inch MacBook Pro will come with OLED display tech whereas the 14-inch model is expected to arrive in 2026. Furthermore, the 13-inch and 15-inch models of the MacBook Air will also switch from LCD to OLED in 2026.

As compared to LCD panels, OLED panels have several advantages, like improved brightness, a high contrast ratio, low power consumption, and enhanced color accuracy. In addition to this, they are thinner and lighter than LCDs. Except for the iPhone SE, the company is already using OLED displays for the iPhone and Apple Watch series.
