‘Request Account Info’ – WhatsApp New Feature Will not Share Info with Facebook
WhatsApp, the leading social media app in the world has introduced a new feature. It is called “Request Account Info”. The best point about this new feature is that WhatsApp will not share the account info with Facebook, its parent company.
In “Request Account Info” WhatsApp feature any user can request and export report of WhatsApp account information and settings. This information includes user pictures, content, videos, group names etc.
Every user can request to export all account information and settings. The WhatsApp account support page says that user will be given account reports in 72 hours’ time after it is being requested. So in 3 days’ time, users can download all chat, videos, pictures, profile pictures etc.
You can access Request Account Info feature if you have received the update.
- Open WhatsApp, Go to Settings and then Account
- In the list of options available chose Request Account Info
- Click on Request Report. A ‘Request Sent’ Message will be displayed
- It will take 3 days to process the request.
- A notification will be sent to you once the report is ready. It will say ‘Your account info report is ready to download’
WhatsApp did clarify that if you delete this report your data will not delete. Furthermore in the 3 days that your report is being made, if you delete your account or change your WhatsApp number, the request will be canceled.
Whatsapp warned, “Because the report has your personal information, you should be careful when storing, sending or uploading it to any other services.”
Other than this WhatsApp has introduced new features which includes listening to voice messages while using other apps or when the phone is locked, tag & send the location to friends along with picture or video, transfer account information to your other number etc.
