Bad news for anyone who still harbors hopes: the Red Dead Redemption 2 remaster for PS5 and Xbox Series X probably won’t take place. At least not before GTA 6 comes out, according to sources familiar with the matter. Rockstar would indeed have abandoned the project to focus on the next installment in the saga.
Gamers’ legendary lack of patience is well known, but it’s hard not to be right next to them when it comes to Rockstar games. Indeed, no one would believe in GTA 6’s existence if the studio hadn’t confirmed the thing itself. Almost 10 years after the release of the latest opus, fans are wondering why it can take so long for the company to develop its sequel.
Some time ago, there were also rumors that a remaster of Red Dead Redemption 2, Rockstar’s latest blockbuster, would soon be released for the PS5 and Xbox Series X. The rumor is far from wild: GTA 5 itself was entitled to a specific version for each generation of consoles, while we know very well that Red Dead Redemption and GTA are intrinsically linked.
That said, it’s better not to expect too much. Besides the fact that Rockstar never formalized the thing, a recent leak seems to have buried the project for good. Indeed, leaker Tez2 indicates that all Red Dead Redemption remasters for next-gen consoles have been canceled so far. The reason is simple: until now, the studio would prefer to focus solely on the development of GTA 6.
On closer inspection, this news was unfortunately predictable. Rockstar already announced the color a few days ago in support of Red Dead Online. In addition, the development of GTA 6 seems to be dragging on, to the point where some rumors indicate that the game may not be released before 2026. So better to look on the bright side: with a little luck, we won’t have to wait, so long.
