Samsung A54 – New camera, new specs, and a step closer to the flagship territory

Although an exact release date hasn’t been confirmed yet, the rumors around the new Samsung A-series middle-ranger are already around, and it seems like Samsung plans to take its best-selling affordable performer one step above. Expected to release in December 2022, the new Samsung A54 will most definitely be an upgrade over the A53 and the mega-popular A52s, and recent leaks suggest that the biggest leap will be in the camera department with the introduction of the new 50MP main camera sensor.

Considering that Samsung has a history of releasing affordable A-series phones in spring, expectations were that we won’t see a new A-series phone this year, but the lackluster sales of the A53 might trigger Samsung to pull the gun early this year. With this in mind, let’s see what we can expect from the A54.

Design & Specs – What can we expect?

Design-wise, we don’t expect any surprises and we believe the A54 will continue the trend set by the A52 – and that means a plastic matte finish on the back with a slope on the camera island, and a wide choice of pastel colors across the board. While we don’t expect some major changes in the screen as well, it’s safe to say that Samsung is already head and shoulders above the competition in this price range.

The A54 is expected to come with a flat 6.5+ inch AMOLED display with FHD+ resolution, 120hz, and 800 nits peak brightness – which makes it perfect for scrolling through social media, executing daily tasks, and gaming. Given the excellent screen and battery life, the newest A-series addition is expected to be a hit among slot fans as well, who can claim generous offers at https://casinobonusesfinder.ca/no-deposit-bonus/. Speaking of the battery, it’s expected that the A54 will come with a non-removable 5,000 mAh battery and fast charging of up to 25 watts.

The biggest upgrade, however, is expected to come in the camera department. The latest rumors suggest that the A54 will feature a 50MP main camera. Although this might sound like a downgrade to the Galaxy A52 and A53’s 64MP main shooter, the change to a 50MP main camera will most likely be a major upgrade. We’re expecting a bigger and more capable sensor, and considering that Samsung uses a 50MP main sensor for its flagships, the Galaxy S22 and S22+, this might just be Samsung’s attempt to bring the A-series closer to flagship territory.

The A54 will likely feature an Exynos chipset made on a 5nm or even 4nm manufacturing process, 6 or 8 gigabytes of RAM, and 128 to 256 GB of internal memory. Overall, a pretty strong contender in the mid-range and possibly a big leap toward the premium department.

Pricing, competition, and verdict

While no major spikes in the price are expected, the A54 is expected to start at an official MSRP of around $450/€450 for the base 6GB/128GB unit, which is still a bit pricier than the competition. Step up to the 8GB/256GB version, and you can expect to pay around $550 – which is dangerously close to the newly announced Google Pixel 7. The Pixel 7 starts at $599 and comes with a new Tensor chip, a 90hz display, and a new flagship-level camera system.

And then there’s the competition from Xiaomi and Realme – two of the heaviest hitters in this category who have a wide offering at this price point. Nevertheless, as Product Owner Tony Sloterman puts it, good phones are getting cheap, and the Samsung Galaxy A54 will most definitely hit that sweet spot of price and performance that we’ve been seeing from the A-series for the past few years.
