Samsung Announces SSD 990 Pro With 4TB Storage

The Samsung 990 Pro series is expanding with a 4 TB variant. From October, the new PCIe 4.0 SSD model will be available in both traditional form and with a heat sink. In terms of price, the memory upgrade will exceed the 300 euro mark.
More capacity for gamers and creative people
While the first manufacturers are already concentrating on expanding their PCIe 5.0 range, Samsung is equipping its 990 Pro SSD with another memory upgrade in October. Previously available in variants with a capacity of 1 TB or 2 TB, the PCIe 4.0 SSD in M.2 format will also be available as a 4 TB model from October 2nd.
According to the datasheet, the sequential read and write speeds of the 4 TB variant are still 7450 MB/s and 6900 MB/s, respectively, Samsung is said to have increased the random read speed of the 4 TB variants again compared to the 2 TB model. This is now 1600 IOPS (Input/Output Operations per second) compared to the previously offered 1400 IOPS.
Furthermore, the DRAM (Dynamic Random Access Memory) should have 4 GB of LPDDR4 and the targeted lifespan should be 2400 TB (Total Bytes Written). Accordingly, the manufacturer’s warranty advertised for the Samsung 990 Pro is five years or is valid until the specified TBW limit is reached.
Prices and availability
Samsung will offer the 990 Pro both without and with a heatsink in October. The traditional 4 TB model is scheduled to launch on October 2nd at a recommended retail price of 309.90 euros, while the variant with heatsink, which is optimized primarily for the PlayStation 5 (PS5), will be available “during October” at a price of 319.90 Euro moves up.
In the WinFuture price comparison, the Samsung 990 Pro can currently be found for 92 euros (1 TB) or 149 euros (2 TB), which means that the starting price of just over 300 euros for the 4 TB SSD is not too high at first glance appears. The equally popular predecessor Samsung 980 Pro, however, is currently priced at 63 euros (1 TB) or 117 euros (2 TB).
