Samsung Chromebooks will receive the camera and microphone privacy toggles

Samsung Chromebook Hinge

Something new is on its way for Samsung Chromebooks. The new feature was identified by folks at 9to5Google. As per the information, Google will introduce system-wide privacy controls for camera and microphone access on ChromeOS. Reportedly, the new feature will be presented on the new beta version of ChromeOS.

In the Security and Privacy section of the Settings menu, navigate to Privacy Controls. You will find the Camera Access and Microphone Access control there. With the latest update, users can get the information about the accessories i.e., camera or microphone that are turned on or off. When deactivated, the users will be notified for turning on the camera in case a website requests camera access. When turned on, camera access will be available across all apps and websites that have the camera and microphone authorizations supported.

According to Google, the latest camera and microphone controls will be rolled out later this year. They will be rolled out via the stable ChromeOS version. Beta version ChormeOS users can already access this feature on Samsung Chromebook. Google is progressively adding Android features to ChromeOS. The capability of streaming apps from your Android smartphone to your ChromeOS laptop has also been enabled. Besides this, Google has introduced Material You Design, Nearby Share, Google Assistant, Smart Lock, and Instant Tethering (using the phone’s cellular data via a Wi-Fi hotspot) features as well.
