As usual, the Korean manufacturer will also end software support for some of its smartphones in 2024. From now on they will no longer receive any updates. Included are several popular models from the S and A series.
Compared to other manufacturers, Samsung offers a generous update period for most of its devices. It was only announced at the beginning of the year that they wanted to provide the S24 series with updated software for a full seven years. But support for cheaper models like the A16 has also been extended to six years. Nevertheless, a number of devices will no longer be supported at the turn of the year and will no longer receive security updates from 2025. A total of seven smartphones are affected:
Owners of one of these Galaxy models should be aware that they will no longer be protected against newly discovered or emerging security vulnerabilities in the future. Of course, the devices can still be used.
However, if that is too risky for you, you will have to choose a newer model. If you want to take advantage of the maximum support period, you should wait a few more weeks for the market launch of the Galaxy S25 series. Samsung will present this at its next Unpacked event on January 22nd. The devices will then receive software updates for a full seven years, up to and including 2031. In addition to the smartphones, a new Galaxy Ring will probably also be presented at the event.
Other owners of even older Galaxy smartphones also have to prepare for the fact that their devices will no longer have access to WhatsApp from January and the popular messenger will therefore no longer be able to be used. In another article, we have therefore compiled a list of all affected cell phones and also explain what precautions affected users should take, such as backing up chat histories and media.
