Samsung Faces a Lawsuit For Defective Hinge In Chromebook Plus

The electronics manufacturer Samsung has to deal with another lawsuit. Although a defective hinge has been used in the Chromebook Plus for years, the company did not reimburse a buyer for the repair of a display that was destroyed as a result.

The Chromebook Plus was advertised as a 2-in-1 device with a foldable touchscreen. This enabled the convertible to be used as a laptop as well as a tablet. According to Samsung, the built-in Gorilla Glass 3 should ensure that the device can be used for a long time without being damaged. For some users, however, the display is said to be broken even during normal use. The built-in hinges are responsible for this.

Broken Display Due To Hinge

After using the Chromebook for a while, the hinge appears to have come loose. When the device was opened or closed, this ensured that the component pressed against the display and cracks appeared. In addition to the broken glass, the panel itself is said to have been damaged. According to Bleeping Computer, some users have complained of color and pixel issues. Samsung had accused the users of not handling the convertible properly and of causing the damage themselves.

Therefore has a damaged buyer, Tony McCoy, now a complaint with a court in the US state of New Jersey filed. He is said to have not been reimbursed for repair costs of $ 350. In addition, Samsung is said to have been aware of the problems for a long time. Even so, the device continued to be sold.

It remains to be seen whether the lawsuit against Samsung is justified and whether the manufacturer has to contribute to the repair costs and pay compensation to the injured buyer. The company has not yet issued an official statement on the allegations.
