Samsung Galaxy M53: Affordable mid-range smartphone with 108 MP

Samsung made the new Galaxy M53 5G official today without much fanfare. This is a mid-range smartphone that is closely related to the successful Galaxy A53 model but stands out for the use of the main camera with a whopping 108 megapixels. The Samsung Galaxy M53 5G is part of the Galaxy M series, with which Samsung has been trying to appeal to both emerging market customers and price-conscious buyers in Europe for a number of years.

The focus here is on a 6.7-inch SuperAMOLED+ display with a maximum refresh rate of 120 Hertz and a central hole for the front camera. Unlike the Galaxy A series, Samsung does not give the device its own Exynos or Snapdragon SoC but relies on the MediaTek Dimensity 900 octa-core chip, which has two high-end cores with a maximum of 2.4 gigahertz and six economical cores with a maximum clock speed of 2.0 GHz.

In addition, there are 6GB RAM and 128 GB of flash memory, which can be expanded with a microSD card slot. There are also features such as two SIM card slots, 5G support, WiFi 5, Bluetooth 5.2, and a USB Type-C port, with which the 5000 mAh battery with up to 25 watts can be quickly charged.

The highlight is the camera

However, the “highlight” of the Galaxy M53 is the camera hardware. The focus is on a 108-megapixel main camera with an aperture of f/1.8, which, however, does not have an optical image stabilizer. There is also an ultra-wide-angle camera with eight megapixels on board, which Samsung also provides with two simple 2-megapixel sensors for depth effects and macro shots.

The front camera has a very high resolution of 32 megapixels. Samsung will launch the Galaxy M53 in various markets in the coming weeks and will then offer variants in brown, green, and blue. Nothing is known about the price yet. What is certain is that Android 12 is used herein in conjunction with Samsung’s own One UI 4.1.
