The fifth item in the highlight list concerns games: the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra 5G is the first smartphone in which, within the framework of cooperation with Microsoft, the optimization for gaming use via online streaming via ” Project xCloud ” is emphasized. With the Xbox Game Pass, more than 90 games should be available on the smartphone via the cloud, making the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra a “portable game console”.
The Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra has a full 6.9-inch dynamic OLED display, which is rounded on the sides and is therefore also referred to as an edge display. The panel offers 3200×1440 pixels and, depending on requirements, achieves a refresh rate of up to 120 Hertz through dynamic control. The screen is in 19.3: 9 format and offers 508 pixels per inch. A special feature is that the Note 20 Ultra should be the first smartphone with the new Corning Gorilla Glass 7.
Under the hood is at least in the European Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra 5G the Samsung Exynos 990 Octacore SoC, which also works in the Galaxy S20. The chip reaches up to 2.7 gigahertz and is installed here together with 12 gigabytes of RAM. Depending on the model, the internal UFS 3.1 flash memory is 256 or 512 gigabytes in size and can be expanded by means of a microSD card.
Samsung has given the Note 20 Ultra a redesigned 108 megapixel sensor that has a maximum f / 1.8 aperture and works with 0.8 micron sensor pixels. Among other things, the sensor is said to have dual-pixel autofocus, but Samsung has also integrated a laser-based autofocus system in its new top smartphone for particularly fast focusing.
There are also two further 12 megapixel sensors on the back of the phone, one of which is equipped with a periscope lens. This results in five times the real magnification, with the sensor working with 1.0-micron pixels and an f / 3.0 aperture. The second 12-megapixel sensor forms the ultra-wide-angle camera and has an f / 2.2 aperture and 1.4-micron sensor pixels.
In combination, the three camera sensors on the back should enable a 50-fold “space zoom” – Samsung, therefore, says goodbye to the 100-fold space zoom advertised for the S20 Ultra, which could hardly prove itself in practice. On the front of the new Galaxy Note 20 Ultra is a centrally placed front camera that works with 10 megapixels and also has dual-pixel autofocus. It has an f / 2.2 aperture and 1.22-micron sensor pixels. Samsung advertises 8K video recordings, at least for the main camera.
Additional features include USB-C 3.2, NFC, Bluetooth 5.x, WiFi 6 and dual GPS support. AKG-optimized stereo speakers are also on board. Samsung specifies the overall height of the Note 20 Ultra 5G at 8.1 millimeters and promises that the device is IP68-certified and thus survives 30 minutes in a depth of up to 1.5 meters.
The battery can be charged to 50 percent of its total capacity of 4500mAh within 30 minutes using the quick charge function. Of course, wireless charging is also supported. It is also to be welcomed that Samsung has installed two SIM card slots and additionally enables eSIM support. Android 10 with the current Samsung One UI 2.x is still used as the operating system.
Samsung will officially launch the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra 5G on August 5. If you want to purchase the device, you have to accept a high price of more than 1000 dollars, although we have no concrete information on pricing yet.
